My oldest friend and I grew up in the West London Suburbs, not too far from Heathrow. By the time I left when I was 18 neither of us knew our way around central London particularly well, its a side affect of living in the burbs...you take the tube everywhere and fail to learn to connect the dots. Since then I have taken it upon myself to explore on foot as much of London as I can, it's a great city and much of the best it has to offer cannot be found on the main drags.

Today I took Jo on a tour of London, my aim was to get her to see how the main drags all hook up so that she could begin to explore the rest with a little confidence. We had a great day, besides taking in many of the great sites London has to offer we had 6 hours of walking time in which to gossip!!

We started at my place and then walked diagonally through Hyde Park to the Queen Elizabeth Gate at Hyde Park Corner, a little along Piccadilly and then cut across Green Park to Buckingham Palace. Then we went across the Mall and into St. James Park, through to Whitehall and up towards Parliament Square and bought Pancakes on Westminster Bridge. We walked along the embankment until we reached Blackfriars where we turned back and walked up Northumberland Avenue to Trafalgar Square. We turned up the Strand and walked through Covent Garden to Garrick Street, had lunch in a pizza place on Charring Cross Road and then walked through Leicester Square and took the back streets behind Regent Street up to Oxford Circus. We decided to take the back streets behind Oxford Street because it was so busy where we met a tramp for whom I bought a coffee. Then we crossed back over Park Lane into Hyde Park and took the path back to Victoria Gate. It's a decent circular tour of London that shows pretty well how everything links in and we both enjoyed it.

I dropped Jo off at the station and popped into Sainsbury's to pick up provisions for the next few days and went home to the mouse. He is still here...I have seen him twice this evening and he failed so say hi/thank me for room and board on both occasions so tomorrow he is mouse toast when I head off to Woolies to purchase me a little mouse poison and some expanding foam to block up the hole and prevent his mousy buddies from coming to look for him when he doesn't come home.
